The AR2008 is an Abbe refractometer in which the sample is placed between a measuring and illumination prism. The device can measure the refractive index or Brix value and display the measured value together with the temperature on the LED display.
With the serial RS-232 interface, the AR2008 can be integrated into existing systems. The measured value and temperature with date and time can be transmitted directly to a printer, network or PC – a decisive advantage for quality management and traceability.
To ensure temperature control, the refractometer can be connected to a circulation thermostat. These devices can be used in a wide range of applications: e.g. in the chemical, petrochemical, oil and grease industries, the food industry, in the pharmaceutical environment and in research & education.

Application Abbe refractometer
The AR2008 has a larger and more robust design, making it ideal for demanding laboratory and production environments. The high-quality optics provide a clearly defined bright/dark line so that measured values can be recorded more quickly and reliably. The digital scale reading also ensures precise, error-free results, even with changing light conditions or frequent user changes.
Application example food industry
- Valid norms/standards: AOAC, OIML, ASTM, GLP, ICUMSA
- Application: Quality and purity control of raw materials and end products (convenience products, dairy products, baby food, egg products, oils). Ideal for high sample volumes.
- Quick measurement and determination of sugar concentration (jams, honey, syrup, seasoning sauces, mustard, mayonnaise)
- Advantage: easy handling, easy cleaning. Good image quality for the bright/dark line, digital printout option.
Application example hospitals and pharmacies
- Valid norms/standards: Pharmacopoeias (BP,JP, Ph. Eur.), GLP
- Application: Outgoing goods inspection or analysis of raw materials. Control of drugs according to Pharmacopoeia (infusion solutions, blood serums, pills, pastes, dialysis preparations) or analysis of body secretions
- Advantage: High reliability Scale can be read digitally. Availability of the BRIX scale, possibility of temperature compensation. Provides an RS-232 interface.
